January 5th, Experiences

Today we toured the Presbytere. The Presbytere was a museum filled with loads of information about Hurricane Katrina. The exhibit had colorful light displays with written information describing the disastrous details of Hurricane Katrina. The emotions that overwhelmed me were sadness, anger, and emptiness. The anger stemmed from the destruction of our environment and atmosphere. The sadness and emptiness that overwhelmed by body was due to seeing and knowing the helpfulness of the victims effected by this catastrophe. The displays showed victims stranded on their roof tops, waiting to be rescued and transported to safety. One of the safe place's victims gathered to be the Louisiana Superdome. The Superdome housed thousands of people who have been recused from their dangerous living quarters, but even though the Superdome gave them a safer place to live, resource became a problem. With the lack of food, water, medical assistance, and financial assistance, the victims of this catastrophe still had a lot of worry to overcome and deal with. The victims in the Superdome ranged from young children to elderly adults. One of the last rooms in the museum was a TV screen that displayed victims who survived through catastrophe and explained their personal experience through the devastation that was delivered. Some victims interviewed were not able to talk about their experiences due to the heartbreak and hardship they went through. One thing that went through my mind while seeing this exhibit was not taking life for granted. The amount of hurt, lives lost, and personal items lost were captured through the emotions on their faces. What was once their home, now did not exist. The image below is a display in the museum that shows what the recuse team would write on the homes when they were searched.
