January 4th, Experiences
For my experience this day I had an opportunity to participate in a delicious cuisine tour. One of the places, my most favorite place we stop at for the cuisine tour was Tujagues. Tujagues is one of the oldest stand up bars in the country. When walking into the bar, the old fashion theme to it reminded me of the history of New Orleans. The bar was filled with dark wood and had a metal gold railing wrapped around it, which allow visitors to stand and drink, hence the standup bar. There were tables of four lined up along with windowed wall, which allowed for visitors to watch the external environment of New Orleans while enjoying a nice old drink of their choice. At this bar, we sampled one of their most popular meals on the menu, a horseradish brisket sandwich. The bread on the sandwich was fresh and moist, allowing for each bite to be filled warm and fresh flavor. The tender pieces of brisket were filled with amazing flavor as well, that resembled a sweet, yet somewhat soothing flavor. Because of the moisture in the meat, each bite melted in my mouth and wanted me to come back for more. Most of the flavor though came from their signature red horseradish sauce. The red horseradish sauce was a little familiar because it had a strong mustard taste to it in which I could recognize. Susan the tour guide was well informative due to her 30 plus years of living here in the City of New Orleans. My classmates and I were in good hands for the cuisine tour because of the amount of history and information we were able to receive during this experience.
