"A little about me"

Welcome to Mindy's Journey 2020 Blog

My name is Melinda Jo Peacock also known as Mindy. This is my second year at Methodist College Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. I have chosen to enroll in a travel course, Humanities 302 A City Speaks: How Urban Landscapes Tell Their Stories. I am very excited to share that I will be knocking our one semester in seven days in New Orleans with my Professor and classmates.
I have chosen nursing as a career path at a very young age. While I was in high school I lost my brother Jeff to colon cancer at the age of 21 years old. Being one of eight children, my parents gathered all of us children around the table and said Jeff was going to have a tumor removed from his colon. The day of surgery brought the worse news a family should ever have to receive. Basically, knowing what I know today my brother was in stage IV of colon cancer at that time. We (our family) lost this battle to cancer within three months. Looking back to all the times in the kitchen, I would assist my parents with Jeff's meals by being proactive in preparing nutritious meals. I would find myself sitting by his bed that was placed in our dining room. As myself being very young it was very difficult to observe the rapid changes of Jeff's condition. Just trying to be another helping hand for my parents who were grieving of this horrific diagnosis. After this heartfelt loss I knew then that I wanted to be a nurse. I knew then it was in me to provide care and comfort to those in need!!! There are always bumps that comes along with life. That being said, I had put myself on the back burner for nursing school for many reasons. I enrolled myself into ICC and took all my gen-eds, and now I'm enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Methodist College. During this past semester at Methodist College, my family was given horrific news again! I just recently lost my brother-n-law Perry Whitley of a very rapid short time frame of cancer. Every time I would see or talk to Perry he would say, "hey sis, how's school". I know he is an angle watching over many people down here on earth. I have appointed Perry Whitley as my "guided angle" to watch over me during my school trip. We love you Perry and miss you immensely!!!
